Vista and Windows7 Driver for Intel Wireless Adapter

A very common wireless adapter in laptops, particularly in the Dell Inspiron series from a few years ago, requires the Intel Pro Wireless driver for Vista and Windows 7.

If you have problems getting online with your newly installed Windows 7 laptop or notebook chances are you need a driver for your wireless adapter. Click here to download the Intel Pro Wireless driver for Vista or Windows 7 32 bit.

Remember where you download this to, you’ll need the location later.

Intel Pro Wireless Driver INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Now this is kinda silly because the whole thing worked right out of the gate for me with the Windows 7 beta. But the RC wouldn’t go online without me manually installing the Intel Pro Wireless driver. It’s not very intuitive either so here’s how you do it.

Install or update wireless adapter driver in Windows 7

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager > Network Adapters

Click the tiny arrow to reveal your adapters, you should see something with the words “Intel” and “wireless” in it. Click that.

A new properties window pops open, find the Driver tab and select it.

Update Driver > Browse My Computer for Driver Software >navigate to where you downloaded the driver to > Next

Restart your system. You should now be able to get online. Don’t be surprised if Windows 7 updater tells you there’s a newer version of the Intel Pro Wireless driver available. Feel free to download that one too. However, for me, the install of this supposedly newer driver failed so your mileage may (as always!) vary.
